Hosted by ‘Taking on a World of Words’, every Wednesday we ask and answer the 3 W’s:
Last time, I snuck an extra W in there too with what Peapod and I had read that week, but I’ve decided to do a regular “Peapod’s Picks” post each Friday instead – picture books/board books new and old!
This week’s WWW, then:
What are you currently reading?
I’ve only just opened this, so no idea about it yet, though it begins with a poem that I thought was beautiful so it’s a promising start…
What have you just finished reading?
I finished The Lost Magician by Piers Torday. I’ve been meaning to read his ‘Wild’ books for quite some time and still not got round to them, but if this is anything to go by the hype surrounding them is justified!
It’s a fantastic, modern take on ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ and the perfect homage to libraries, librarians and all things bookish!
Talking of modern takes on classic books, I’ve also read this beautiful modern version of ‘Twelve Dancing Princesses’ which was one of my favourite fairy tales growing up.
Full reviews of both will follow…
What are you planning on reading next?
These are the most pressing of my TBR pile:
But I also have this which I’ve been waiting months for…
Which would you choose?
Have you read any of the books here? What are you reading at the moment?
My library copy of Lost Magician arrived a week or so ago, and I’m very excited about reading it! I’m thinking I might take it with me on holiday in a few weeks. From your TBR, I’d pick Wundersmith because I loved Nevermoor, but I’ve already read my Snowglobe proof and highly recommend it 💜

I need to find a way of reading about ten books at once! So many I’m desperate to start – looking forward to Wundersmith, Nevermoor was fab wasn’t it?! And heard only good things about Snowglobe too! Enjoy Lost Magician – it’ll be a great holiday read!

Oh wow, love all of the covers, all of these books sound and look amazing! The Lost Magician sounds so interesting, I’ll have to get my hands on that. Books about books and libraries and stories are always wonderful. And your TBR pile looks like a good time! Happy reading! x

Lost Magician is definitely worth a read – it’s a really unique take on the libraries/books/characters in novels – very cleverly done! Thanks for stopping by!

Oh dear, I’ve spotted The Labyrinth of the Spirits in the ‘most pressing’ section of your TBR pile and it’s in mine too (and has been for a while, unfortunately).

I am SO looking forward to reading that, but it’s SO long, everything is taking me forever to read at the moment and I have SO many to get through! But I know it’ll be SO good..!

Yes, I had the same thought about its length and just haven’t been able to find the time to devote to it. Too many other reading deadlines!

Such beautiful book covers. I’m a huge fan of Carlos Ruiz Zafon, so if I had his newest one like you do, I would read that one. However, The Way Past Winter has another beautiful cover, so I would probably gravitate to that one as well. Here is what I’ve been reading: https://greatmorrisonmigration.wordpress.com/2018/10/03/www-wednesdays-october-3-2018/

Yes!! It would be a brilliant Christmas gift – mine is an unfinished copy so not all the illustrations were in it yet but those that are are a brilliant accompaniment to the text and it’s a fantastic tale! A really lovely book.

I think I probably will do. I’ve been on absolute pins waiting for it but now it’s here I can hardly bring myself to start it! Part of me is also wondering whether I should wait for the weather to get really cold and grey first too… sure I won’t last!

The cover of Fierce Fairytales is gorgeous! And I’ve been meaning to read another Carlos Ruiz Zafon for ages. I hope you will enjoy your books this week and happy reading. 🙂

Fierce Fairytales promises to be wonderful! I hadn’t realised some of it was poetry, it should be something really different and special…
Thanks for reading!
