Six for Sunday is Steph at alittlebutalot‘s creation with a prompt each week to blog about.
Today’s prompt is:
Oh, so hard to narrow down to six! There were SO many great books last year!
After much deliberation, I’ve cheated and chosen six picture books and six MG.
Circle by Mac Barnett & Jon Klassen
Can Cat and Bird Be Friends? by Coll Muir
The Suitcase by Chris Naylor-Ballesteros
The Steves by Morag Hood
Beast Feast by Emma Yarlett
The signed copy of The Fate of Fausto by Oliver Jeffers that my friend had dedicated to me (especially as its signed to Bellis rather than Rachael!)
And for my MG six:
Rumblestar by Abi Elphinstone (cover art by Carrie May and Jenny Richards)
Where the River Runs Gold by Sita Brahmachari (cover art by Evan Hollingdale)
Wild Folk Rising by Sylvia Linsteadt, cover art by Sandra Dieckmann
The Girl Who Speaks Bearby Sophie Anderson, illustrated by Kathrin Honesta
North Child by Edith Pattou, cover art by
Top Marks For Murder by Robin Stevens (cover art by Nina Tara)
(OK I confess, that last one really represents the whole MMU series as I read them all last year – thank you, Amy for getting me reading them!)
Have you read any of these? Do we share any top picks? What were your 2019 favourites?
Lots of agreement on this page other than the three I haven’t read yet but I know they will be awesome (cat & Bird, Oliver Jeffers and Wild Folk Rising) – you will laugh when you see my post (scheduled for 9ish) I refused to be limited to 6 and may have got carried away.

Haga, I’m glad you cheated too! I was sorely tempted to add more MG in, it was very hard to get it down to these!
The Jeffers one isn’t one if my favourite books by him (though it’s still great of course!) but I was so excited that my friend had got it signed for me as he’s such a fave of mine! You’ll love Wild Folk Rising!

I definitely want to read Wild Folk Rising! And yes, I barely tried to knock my list down- the easiest part was just editing out the books that were not published in 2019!!

I’ve only read two from your list, but totally agree with both; Rumblestar and the entire MMU series are fabulous!

They really are. I’m so excited for the next installment of the Unmapped Chronicles!

Me too! I think Abi Elphinstone’s writing just gets better and better…and it started at a high standard anyway.

I definitely think this is her best yet. I preferred the Dreamsnatcher trilogy to Sky Song but I think that was more because of the content, I think I’m terms of the actual writing, Sky Song is probably better. Regardless, Unmapped Chronicles take the prize!

I need to continue with the Murder Most Unladylike series – I’ve only read the first two! I haven’t actually read any of your picks but a few are on my list.

I adored Rumblestar and am so looking forward to Jungledrop – Abi just announced cover reveal tomorrow- just a day too late for my post! 😀. I also loved Where the River Runs Gold and The Girl Who Speaks Bear – can’t wait for Sophie’s next one! I STILL need to read North Child!
