WWW Wednesday 12/8/20

WWW Wednesday is hosted by ‘Taking on a World of Words’ every Wednesday.

What are you currently reading?

The Castle of Tangled Magic by Sophie Anderson

I’ve struggled to grt going with this. I’m enjoying it but it’s just not living up to The Girl Who Speaks Bear which I LOVED! We’ll see how it pans out…

My Name is Mina by David Almond, audiobook read by Charlie Sanderson

I am LOVING this. Love, love, LOVING it!
I finished listening to Skellig (see below) and decided to go straight on to this as I’d never read it and Mina and her mum are my hands down favourite characters in Skellig. Well, it has more than surpassed my expectations and I’m only half way on!

What have you just finished reading?

Across the Risen Sea by Bren Macdibble

I really enjoyed this, perhaps slightly less than her previous two books but it was a great adventure nevertheless. Review to follow later today or tomorrow!

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I really enjoyed this too. It’s been popular but has had quite mixed reviews with some saying it lacks credibility – maybe the children’s book lover in me found it easier to add a pinch of salt to proceedings than some! I really loved the marshland setting and the author’s history as a nature writer shines through the whole book.

Skellig by David Almond, audiobook read by the author.

I liked this so much more second time round, and preferred this audiobook version to the physical one. There’s something about hearing it read by David Almond himself that just set it right for me where my own reading left me dissatisfied.

What will you read next?

I have no idea! I’ve lost my reading way a bit with bring back at work and need to get into a new routine again.

I think my next audiobook will be A Clockwork Sparrow as that’s what if planned to read before Skellig and Mina jumped in!

And I really do need to catch up with my netgalley shelf so I may try to have a blitz of those in succession rather than juggling multiple books and formats…

Have you read any of these?

    1. It’s a really evocative book. OK, some of the characters are a bit stereotypical, but it didn’t put me off and it may be a bit unlikely but surely that’s partly the point of fiction?! I hope you enjoy it!

  1. I’ll be really interested in your thoughts on The Castle of Tangled Magic when you’ve finished it. I think The Girl Who Speaks Bear is an incredibly special book. I think I might prioritise NetGalley books for the rest of August – might need to change up my 20 Reads of Summer!

    1. Yes, that’s exactly my plan for August too!
Have you read Castle (sorry, can’t remember!) I loved Girl Who Speaks Bear but only liked House with Chicken Legs and I feel this is going to fall in the chicken leg camp.
